Retail-sales of automobiles is growing much faster than wholesale with the help of manufacturers and helping dealers reduce their mounting inventory.

As per the report, retail sales of passenger vehicles rose by 3.68 per cent while those of commercial vehicles and two-wheelers grew even faster by 22.34 per cent and 9.56 per cent respectively, in FY19.

The report shows that wholesale volumes of passenger vehicles rose 2.7 per cent, commercial vehicles by 17.55 per cent and two-wheelers by 4.86 per cent.

Sugato Sen, director general at SIAM said, “wholesale-growth has been low on account of inventory correction undertaken by manufacturers over the past two months, but retail sales have been better than wholesale numbers”.
