Mid-Session: Sensex reclaims 37,900 levels, Nifty up 84 pts; RCF surges 18%

Indian equities continued to trade higher in afternoon deals on Friday, led by gains in realty and power stocks, tracking firm cues from Asian peers. Outperforming the benchmark indices, the broader markets witnessed surge in buying, with MidCap and SmlCap indices rising as much as 1.26 per cent and 1.19 per cent, respectively. Among the individual stocks, shares of Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers (RCF) rallied as much as 18 per cent on Bombay Stock Exchange after the government approved a new procurement policy on MSP (minimum support prices).

At 12:10 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 37900.16, up by 182.2 points or by 0.48 per cent, and the NSE Nifty was at 11454.7, up by 84.8 points or by 0.75 per cent.

During the day’s trade so far, the BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 38058.92 and intraday low of 37859.52, while the NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11484.8 and intraday low of 11430.55.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 199.90,+3.47%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 230.40,+2.97%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 323.60,+2.91%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 1323.00,+2.42%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1860.70,+1.94%), among others.

On the flip side, Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 278.65,-0.94%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 736.25,-0.87%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1615.50,-0.76%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 327.35,-0.40%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2036.95,-0.33%),, were among top losers on BSE.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2589, shares advanced were 1701, while 730 shares declined and 158 were unchanged.
