Sensex rises nearly 500 pts, Nifty over 10,450

The benchmark indices are trading higher due to a firm rupee against the dollar. Also, stock specific action will continue as firms like Bandhan Bank and ZEE are likely to declare their second-quarter earnings later in the day today. Investors will also keep an eye on TCS, which will announce its Q2 earnings on Thursday.

European markets are lower today with shares in France off the most. The CAC 40 is down 0.59% while Germany's DAX is off 0.44% and London's FTSE 100 is lower by 0.19%.

Among sectors, auto stocks have gathered steam along with banks, infrastructure, metals, and pharmaceuticals.

At 14:13, BSE SENSEX was at 34786.04 up by 486.57 points or by 1.42 % and NSE Nifty was at 10463.55 up by 162.5 points or by 1.58 %.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 14239.37 up by 536.02 points or by 3.91 %. While the BSE SMLCAP was at 13940.51 up by 438.56 points or by 3.25 %.

The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 34858.35 and intraday low of 34346.5. The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 10479.65 and intraday low of 10318.25.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 586.00,+6.02%), State Bank of India (Rs. 275.80,+5.01%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7019.60,+4.90%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 233.85,+4.35%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 319.35,+4.33%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 697.75,-2.73%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2054.50,-1.72%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 316.25,-1.23%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 603.00,-1.12%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 271.25,-0.60%), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 2803, shares advanced were 2033 while 616 shares declined and 154 were unchanged.
