Sensex drops nearly 140 points, Nifty slips below 10,900; Indiabulls Housing cracks 5%

Indian benchmark indices opened on a weak note on Monday, tracking tepid cues from other Asian markets. Weak technical charts added to the weakness. The Indian rupee has opened at 71.23 per US dollar. This implies an appreciation of 8 paise from its previous close of 71.31 per US dollar. The shares of Indiabulls Housing Finance are down around 5 percent in trade on Monday morning. Dr. Reddy's Laboratories slipped over 4 per cent in opening deals as the pharma company's Bachupally unit got Form 483 with 11 observations by the US Food and Drug Administration.

At 9:23 hours, the SENSEX was trading at 36408.83 down by -137.65 points or by -0.38 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 10900.85 down by -42.75 points or by -0.39 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 478.05,+1.81%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1074.40,+0.80%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 765.90,+0.80%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 133.05,+0.80%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2070.00,+0.35%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 663.60,-2.84%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2870.30,-2.12%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 140.65,-1.99%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 148.30,-1.98%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 80.25,-1.47%), among others.

Among sectors, IT index was at 15682.78 up by 58.71 points or by 0.38%. Brightcom Group Ltd. (Rs. 2.94,+5.00%), Rolta India Ltd. (Rs. 3.97,+4.75%), Subex Ltd. (Rs. 5.89,+4.43%), TVS Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 170.95,+2.49%), MindTree Ltd. (Rs. 904.10,+1.23%),. On the flip side, Auto index was at 18688.95 down by -254.62 points or by -1.34%. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 663.60,-2.84%), Cummins India Ltd. (Rs. 732.00,-2.59%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2870.30,-2.12%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 148.30,-1.98%), Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 20500.00,-1.63%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1202, shares advanced were 445 while 689 shares declined and 68 were unchanged.
