Sensex up 145 pts, Nifty tops 11,370; DHFL gains 5%

Indian benchmark indices continued their journey northwards and opened higher on Thursday. Among the sectors, FMCG, infra and energy are trading marginally lower, while IT, metal, pharma, and auto witnessing buying interest. The Indian rupee opened lower by 14 paise at 69.67 per dollar on Thursday versus previous close 69.53. The shares of Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd. gained 5 percent in the early trade.

At 9:30 hours, the SENSEX was trading at 37897.79 up by 145.62 points or by 0.39 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11373 up by 31.3 points or by 0.28 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 251.75,+3.03%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 462.45,+1.39%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1276.55,+1.23%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1973.00,+1.12%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1393.95,+1.11%), among others. The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 189.00,-2.85%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 179.40,-1.21%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2775.00,-1.11%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 90.35,-0.93%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2983.00,-0.84%), among others.

Among sectors, CGS index was at 18437.76 up by 146.65 points or by 0.8%. GE T&D India Ltd. (Rs. 300.00,+2.37%), Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 6.99,+2.34%), Graphite India Ltd. (Rs. 467.95,+1.85%), ABB India Ltd. (Rs. 1317.00,+1.83%), NBCC (India) Ltd. (Rs. 61.00,+1.67%),. On the flip side, Power index was at 1939.68 down by -9.48 points or by -0.49%. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 189.00,-2.85%), KEC International Ltd. (Rs. 293.45,-0.36%), GMR Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 16.85,-0.30%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 73.55,-0.20%), Adani Transmission Ltd. (Rs. 213.35,-0.05%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1377, shares advanced were 900 while 405 shares declined and 72 were unchanged.
