Pre Session: Sensex, Nifty seen flat opening; TCS, Infosys shares in focus

The frontline benchmark indices are likely to open flat on Monday on weak global cues, the trends on SGX Nifty indicate a negative opening for the broader indices in India. Asian shares started on a firm footing on Monday and the dollar eased as risk appetite was whetted by better-than-expected data from China that helped boost confidence about the health of the world economy. Oil prices edged lower on Monday after international benchmark Brent hit a fresh five-month high in the previous session, but concerns over global supplies provided a floor to losses. Back home, bearish trends on the SGX Nifty Index Futures for April delivery, which were trading at 11,688.00, down by 3.00 points or 0.03 per cent, at 11:02 AM, Singapore Time, also indicated a negative start for local bourses. On the macro front, India's retail inflation stood at 2.86 percent in March, higher than previous month's 2.57 percent, on account of increase in prices of food articles and fuel. The latest price data released by the Central Statistics Office on April 12 showed that consumer price index (CPI)-based inflation, which measures changes in shop-end prices, remained comfortably within the Reserve Bank of India's target level of 4 percent. On the corporate front, TCS Q4 profit rose 0.3 percent to Rs 8,126 crore versus Rs 8,105 crore and revenue grows 1.8 percent to Rs 38,010 crore versus Rs 37,338 crore QoQ. Revenue in constant currency terms increases 2.4 percent QoQ. Infosys Q4 profit jumped 12.9 percent to Rs 4,074 crore versus Rs 3,609 crore, revenue rises 0.6 percent to Rs 21,539 crore versus Rs 21,400 crore; EBIT margin falls 120 bps QoQ. Company sees constant currency revenue growth at 7.5-9.5 percent and EBIT margin at 21-23 percent in FY20. On the earnings front, Hathway Cable & Datacom, Network18 Media & Investments, TV18 Broadcast, Reliance Industrial Infrastructure, Mac Hotels, TRF, Tata Metaliks, Sanghi Corporate, International Travel House, Gujarat Hotels, Dhruv Estates are to release their results today. The 30-share index settled at 38767.11 up by 160.1 points or by 0.41 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11643.45 up by 46.75 points or by 0.4 per cent.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 208962 with a total turnover of Rs. 15286.12 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 670325 with a total turnover of Rs. 42670.25 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 6974904 with a total turnover of Rs. 482484.39 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 641475 with a total turnover of Rs. 42210.90 Crore.

As on April 12, 2019, the FIIs stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5258.31 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 603.01 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 4241.89 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1426.25 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1016.42 Crore and Rs. -823.24.
