Sensex opens flat; Infy drops 5% after Q4 results

The Indian benchmark indices opened on a flat note with a positive bias on Monday. All the sectoral indices are trading in green led by metal, auto, infra, FMCG, and energy. The shares of Infosys dropped 5 per cent after Q4 results. The company said it has earned a consolidated profit of 10.51 per cent year-on-year at Rs 4,078 crore for March quarter, beating Rs 3,957 crore, as estimated by analysts. The net sales for the quarter climbed 19.1 per cent to Rs. 21,539 crore from Rs.18,083 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The company recommended a final dividend of Rs. 10.50 per share for the financial year ended March 31, 2019. The Indian rupee opened higher by 8 paise at 69.07 per dollar on Monday versus Friday's close 69.15.

At 9:32 hours, the SENSEX was trading at 38853.53 up by 86.42 points or by 0.22 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11665.1 up by 21.65 points or by 0.19 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 225.75,+4.59%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 107.15,+3.53%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2075.00,+3.04%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 246.65,+2.86%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1106.25,+2.15%), among others. The top losers of the BSE Sensex were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 728.70,-2.56%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 338.95,-0.76%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 674.30,-0.46%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 157.10,-0.44%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 7300.00,-0.44%), among others.

Among sectors, Metal index was at 11631.96 up by 164.63 points or by 1.44%. Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 246.65,+2.86%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 186.70,+1.52%), Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 213.05,+1.48%), National Aluminium Company Ltd. (Rs. 56.20,+1.26%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 540.00,+1.17%),. On the flip side, Power index was at 2050.58 down by -0.82 points or by -0.04%. Adani Power Ltd. (Rs. 50.95,-3.78%), Tata Power Company Ltd. (Rs. 71.65,-1.78%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 77.15,-0.52%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 135.60,-0.29%), Torrent Power Ltd. (Rs. 256.45,-0.08%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1403 , shares advanced were 865 while 452 shares declined and 86 were unchanged.
