Nifty choppy; TCS rises over 3% on strong Q4 earnings

The domestic benchmark indices are trading on a positive note. The shares of TCS rose over 3 per cent on Monday morning on better-than-expected fourth quarter earnings. The shares rose over 3 per cent to hit a high of Rs 2085.60. Later, the scrip was hovering at Rs 2053.25, up 1.96 per cent at 09:38 am. This was against 0.08 per cent rise in the BSE Sensex. Strong growth in revenue from banking and financial services boosted TCS’ performance, which helped the company post its best show in 15 quarters. Profits grew 17.7 per cent to Rs 8,126 crore in the fourth quarter on revenues of Rs 38,010 crore, which expanded 18.5 per cent.

At 10:25 hours, the SENSEX was trading at 38875.11 up by 108 points or by 0.28 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11666.95 up by 23.5 points or by 0.2 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 38878.9 and intraday low of 38780.08 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11677.4 and intraday low of 11648.25.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 224.90,+4.19%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 107.05,+3.43%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 246.60,+2.84%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2064.50,+2.52%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2692.00,+1.97%), among others. On the flip side, the top losers of the BSE Sensex were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 727.10,-2.77%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 460.55,-0.81%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 339.05,-0.73%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 157.20,-0.38%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 2022.00,-0.21%), among others.

Among sectors, Realty index was at 2163.04 up by 30.26 points or by 1.42%. Sobha Ltd. (Rs. 511.60,+2.28%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 598.00,+2.20%), Phoenix Mills Ltd. (Rs. 642.00,+2.07%), Sunteck Realty Ltd. (Rs. 494.35,+1.66%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 275.90,+1.38%),. On the flip side, BSETECk index was at 7671.85 down by -6.8 points or by -0.09%. Reliance Communications Ltd. (Rs. 2.43,-4.71%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 727.10,-2.77%), Sterlite Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 199.40,-0.94%), Vodafone Idea Ltd. (Rs. 15.90,-0.93%), Sun TV Network Ltd. (Rs. 598.95,-0.83%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2086 , shares advanced were 1252 while 703 shares declined and 131 were unchanged.
