Post Session: Indices halts 9-day losing streak; Sensex zooms 227 pts, Nifty crosses 11,200

Indian domestic benchmark indices snapped their nine-day losing streak, led by gains in Reliance, ITC., and State Bank of India, to end Tuesday's volatile session with gains. Except IT that fell over 1 percent, all sectoral indices were trading in the green. PSU Bank is the biggest gainer, surging over 3 percent. In Asia, all leading bourses witnessed mild to heavy sell-offs on Tuesday after US-China trade war further intensified. In a retaliatory move, China on Monday said it would raise tariffs on US goods worth nearly USD 60 billion. Brent Futures, global crude oil benchmark, traded higher at USD 70.89 per barrel, up 0.94 per cent, on concerns about supply disruptions in view of geo-political tensions in the crucial oil producing region of the Middle East. The escalating trade war between the US and China is causing more market volatility around the world.

The 30-share index settled at 37318.53 up by 227.71 points or by 0.61 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11222.05 up by 73.85 points or by 0.66 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 37572.7 and intraday low of 36956.1 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11294.75 and intraday low of 11108.3.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 420.15,+5.87%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 335.75,+5.40%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 160.55,+4.08%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1430.45,+2.58%), State Bank of India (Rs. 313.90,+2.33%), among others. On the other hand, the top losers of the BSE Sensex were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2094.35,-1.72%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1065.95,-1.56%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 2884.05,-1.52%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2945.00,-0.92%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 713.85,-0.86%), among others.

Among sectors, CGS index was at 17544.1 up by 251.74 points or by 1.46%. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 63.45,+5.93%), BEML Ltd. (Rs. 840.00,+5.38%), CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 37.05,+5.11%), Elgi Equipments Ltd. (Rs. 265.60,+5.10%), Finolex Cables Ltd. (Rs. 430.30,+3.43%),. On the flip side, IT index was at 15328.45 down by -190.81 points or by -1.23%. Trigyn Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 71.00,-5.52%), HCL Infosystems Ltd. (Rs. 14.15,-5.35%), 63 Moons Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 157.45,-4.98%), D-Link (India) Ltd. (Rs. 78.45,-3.33%), MIC Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 0.95,-3.06%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2856 , shares advanced were 1307 while 1392 shares declined and 157 were unchanged.
