Sensex, Nifty open flat; Jet Airways tumbles almost 6%

The Indian frontline benchmark indices opened flat with a positive bias on Wednesday morning taking cues from global peers. All the sectoral indices are trading in green led by energy, FMCG, auto, bank and IT. The shares of Jet Airways tumbled almost 6 per cent after its chief executive officer (CEO) Vinay Dube, chief finance officer (CFO) and deputy CEO Amit Agarwal and company secretary Kuldeep Sharma resigned with immediate effect. Recenty, Jet’s chief people officer Rahul Taneja and executive director Gaurang Shetty had also quit, besides other seniors in engineering, network management and corporate affairs teams.

At 9:22 hours, the SENSEX was trading at 37380.16 up by 61.63 points or by 0.17 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11271.7 up by 49.65 points or by 0.44 per cent.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 183.75,+1.07%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 473.95,+0.89%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1074.35,+0.79%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 161.80,+0.78%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1268.75,+0.73%), among others. On the flip side, the top losers of the BSE Sensex were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 153.50,-1.70%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 331.60,-1.24%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 417.30,-0.68%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 240.85,-0.58%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1688.40,-0.35%), among others.

Among sectors, Oil&Gas index was at 14509.25 up by 81.29 points or by 0.56%. Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 361.85,+1.00%), Petronet LNG Ltd. (Rs. 235.20,+0.94%), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 144.70,+0.91%), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 346.00,+0.83%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1268.75,+0.73%),. On the other hand, CGS index was at 17504.82 down by -39.28 points or by -0.22%. Sadbhav Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 209.00,-0.90%), Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 1081.65,-0.46%), Havells India Ltd. (Rs. 720.75,-0.30%), Finolex Cables Ltd. (Rs. 421.25,-0.27%), CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 36.95,-0.27%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 973 , shares advanced were 575 while 362 shares declined and 36 were unchanged.
