Nifty above 11,960; BHEL rises 2%

The frontline indices have extended their gains and are trading higher lifted by metal and bank sectors. The shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) jumped 2 per cent after company won an order worth Rs 400 crore for the erection work of the upcoming 2x1000 MWe Turbine Generator (TG) island Units 3 and 4 at Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project in Tamil Nadu being set up with foreign co-operation (Russia).

At 13:20 hours, the SENSEX was trading at 39953.13 up by 168.61 points or by 0.42 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11963.65 up by 40.95 points or by 0.34 per cent. The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 39957.99 and intraday low of 39760.02 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11970.5 and intraday low of 11904.35.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 141.45,+4.08%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 168.80,+2.46%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 83.00,+2.41%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1583.15,+2.12%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 168.90,+2.09%), among others. On the other hand, the top losers of the BSE Sensex were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 387.60,-3.55%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 638.85,-1.28%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1524.45,-0.51%), Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 259.15,-0.33%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 192.95,-0.31%), among others.

Among sectors, Metal index was at 10931.7 up by 106.07 points or by 0.98%. Steel Authority of India (SAIL) Ltd. (Rs. 49.30,+2.18%), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 168.90,+2.09%), JSW Steel Ltd. (Rs. 271.35,+1.63%), Jindal Steel & Power Ltd. (Rs. 159.10,+1.63%), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 105.50,+1.34%),. On the flip side, CGS index was at 19653.46 down by -44.35 points or by -0.23%. Dilip Buildcon Ltd. (Rs. 448.00,-2.41%), Finolex Cables Ltd. (Rs. 454.80,-1.98%), Carborundum Universal Ltd. (Rs. 360.80,-1.93%), Elgi Equipments Ltd. (Rs. 264.95,-1.62%), Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 4.62,-1.28%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2640 , shares advanced were 1079 while 1411 shares declined and 150 were unchanged.
