Sensex down 164 points; Nifty at 11500

Indian benchmarks continued to hover in red during the late noon trades dragged down by PSU bank, auto, and metal stocks.

Shares of IndiGo, India’s largest airline, nosedived as much as 18 per cent to hit a low of Rs 1,291 apiece on the on Wednesday after promoters Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal made serious allegations against each other, forcing the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to intervene IndiGo CEO, Ronojoy Dutta told employees that issues between promoters will eventually get sorted out and have nothing to do with the airline.

At 14:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 38566.81 down by 164.01 points or by 0.42 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 11500.1 down by 55.8 points or by 0.48 per cent.

Meanwhile, Sensex touched intraday high of 38854.85 and intraday low of 38474.66 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11593.7 and intraday low of 11477.75.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 394.15,+1.98%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 92.75,+1.53%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1477.05,+0.95%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 431.15,+0.58%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2390.65,+0.49%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 149.65,-3.92%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 3480.15,-3.42%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 72.25,-3.28%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 453.80,-3.11%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1494.40,-2.11%), among others.

Among the sectors, HCS index was at 12786.21 up by 5.15 points or by 0.04%. Panacea Biotec Ltd. (Rs. 152.00,+4.15%), IOL Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 206.40,+3.88%), Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company Ltd. (Rs. 122.30,+3.16%), Indoco Remedies Ltd. (Rs. 151.70,+2.50%), Lincoln Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 162.80,+2.23%),.

On the flip side, CGS index was at 18894.62 down by -349.97 points or by -1.82%. Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 1215.80,-3.48%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 104.05,-2.98%), NBCC (India) Ltd. (Rs. 54.95,-2.66%), Schaeffler India Ltd. (Rs. 4570.05,-2.26%), Havells India Ltd. (Rs. 723.25,-2.11%),. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2623 , shares advanced were 948 while 1514 shares declined and 161 were unchanged.
