Post-Session: Sensex, Nifty end lower; Tata Group among top losers

Indian benchmark indices ended Wednesday's volatile session in the negative territory.Markets turned jittery after US President Donald Trump on Tuesday once again warned India that its high tariffs were not acceptable ahead of the Indo-US trade talks on Friday. In May, India had imposed higher tariffs on 28 US products.

The market sentiment was further dented after Moody's highlighted that weak growth prospects for India will complicate the government's fiscal consolidation efforts, weighing on the sovereign's credit quality.

Major losers on the D-street included Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel and Tata Motors being the top losers. On the contrary, YES Bank, Sun Pharma and ICICI Bank were the top gainers for the day.

The 30-share benchmark index ended at 38557.04 down by 173.78 points or by 0.45 % while the NSE Nifty was at 11498.9 down by 57 points or by 0.49 %.

During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 38854.85 and intraday low of 38474.66 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11593.7 and intraday low of 11475.65.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 93.00,+1.81%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 392.05,+1.44%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1475.60,+0.85%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 431.85,+0.75%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2390.00,+0.46%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 3426.55,-4.91%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 454.60,-2.94%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 151.40,-2.79%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 768.50,-2.25%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 73.10,-2.14%), among others.

Among the sectors Bankex index was at 34316.87 up by -55.23 points or by -0.16%. YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 93.00,+1.81%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1475.60,+0.85%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 431.85,+0.75%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 2390.00,+0.46%), City Union Bank Ltd. (Rs. 200.10,+0.35%),.

On the flip side, CGS index was at 18927.91 down by -316.68 points or by -1.65%. Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 1212.60,-3.74%), Bharat Electronics Ltd. (Rs. 103.90,-3.12%), NBCC (India) Ltd. (Rs. 54.80,-2.92%), V-Guard Industries Ltd. (Rs. 232.70,-2.25%), Schaeffler India Ltd. (Rs. 4572.65,-2.20%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2780 , shares advanced were 1031 while 1581 shares declined and 168 were unchanged.
