Post Session: Sensex ends higher, Nifty ends at 11,003

Continuing the gaining streak for the second straight day, equity benchmark indices ended in the positive territory on Monday led by buying in counters such as HDFC, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), ICICI Bank, Maruti and Bajaj Finance.

Markets will remain closed tomorrow on account of Muharram.

Global stock markets gained on Monday as investors pinned their hopes on stimulus that’s expected from the world’s central banks to support slowing growth. European markets opened higher after data showed a surprise rise in German exports and on expectations of stimulus by the European Central Bank later this week. MSCI’s All Country World Index, which tracks shares across 47 countries, was up 0.05 per cent.

In Asian markets, China's blue-chip CSI300 index was up 0.6 per cent at 3,972.95, while the Shanghai Composite Index added 0.8 per cent to 3,024.74 points. Chinese yuan softened after Beijing’s latest stimulus package.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 37145.45 up by 163.68 points or by 0.44 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11003.05 up by 56.85 points or by 0.52 %.

During the day's trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 37244.08 and intraday low of 36784.47 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11028.85 and intraday low of 10889.8.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 63.10,+4.47%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 6333.50,+2.39%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1357.35,+2.18%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1471.10,+2.05%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 356.15,+1.99%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1085.00,-1.50%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 830.00,-1.21%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 712.85,-1.21%), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2806.75,-1.16%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2183.30,-0.65%), among others.

Among the sectors, CGS index was at 17257.87 up by 295.26 points or by 1.74%. Honeywell Automation India Ltd. (Rs. 27699.00,+9.18%), Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (Rs. 705.35,+4.73%), NBCC (India) Ltd. (Rs. 37.50,+4.60%), Siemens Ltd. (Rs. 1225.00,+3.05%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1357.35,+2.18%),.

IT index was at 16121.7 down by -132.08 points or by -0.81%. Tanla Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 57.70,-4.94%), Newgen Software Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 280.40,-2.69%), Aurionpro Solutions Ltd. (Rs. 86.10,-2.49%), Persistent Systems Ltd. (Rs. 557.90,-2.02%), Genesys International Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 78.20,-2.01%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2948 , shares advanced were 1720 while 1022 shares declined and 206 were unchanged.
