Sensex marginally in red; Nifty below 11,150

Equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty opened flat on Monday even as most global markets were in the green after data showed the US unemployment rate dropped to the lowest in almost 50 years, easing concerns of a slowdown in the world's largest economy.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee declined in the early trade on Monday. It opened lower by 8 paise at 70.96 per dollar versus Friday's close 70.88.

The July-September quarter earnings season will begin later in this week. Among laregcaps, Infosys, TCS and IndusInd Bank numbers will be key to watch out for. Goa Carbon, GM Breweries, Bajaj Consumer Care, Hathway Bhawani Cabletel, Den Networks, Avenue Supermarts, ITI, California Software Company, etc will also announce their results during the week.

Sectorally, all the indices, barring IT index, were trading in the red. Nifty Media index slipped 4 per cent in the morning deals, followed by decline in the Nifty Auto and PSU banks indices, down 1 per cent each.

At 9:30 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 37643.58 down by 29.73 points or by 0.08 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11147.05 down by 27.7 points or by 0.25 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 37853.8 and intraday low of 37534.54 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11198.05 and intraday low of 11139.8.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 44.10,+4.63%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1199.70,+0.90%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 341.80,+0.62%), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1984.00,+0.36%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1312.00,+0.35%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1227.00,-2.93%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1395.65,-2.00%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 52.65,-1.77%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 379.25,-1.72%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2625.05,-1.64%), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1238 , shares advanced were 428 while 746 shares declined and 64 were unchanged.
