Sensex trades higher; banks, financials top aid

Trimming all the early losses, Indian benchmarks bounced back in green during the morning deals amid buying in index heavyweights including Yes Bank, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Finance and ICICI Bank among others. The coming week is holiday-shortened one and it would kick-start the earnings season with IT majors, TCS and Infosys, reporting their numbers on October 10 and October 11, respectively. Besides, participants will be closely eyeing the IIP data which is scheduled on October 11.

At 10:40 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 37855.92 up by 182.61 points or by 0.48 % and then NSE Nifty was at 11216.55 up by 41.8 points or by 0.37 %.. Sensex touched intraday high of 37919.47 and intraday low of 37534.54 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 11233.85 and intraday low of 11117.85

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 43.85,+4.03%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1214.15,+2.12%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1590.90,+1.83%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 419.55,+1.40%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 3951.90,+1.26%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 554.00,-1.76%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 379.50,-1.66%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 127.60,-1.54%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1250.25,-1.09%), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2640.10,-1.08%), among others.

Among the sectors, _Bankex index was at 31686.33 up by 382.94 points or by 1.22%. YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 43.85,+4.03%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1214.15,+2.12%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1590.90,+1.83%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 419.55,+1.40%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 661.75,+0.85%),. On the flip side, HCS index was at 12136.62 down by -137.65 points or by -1.12%. Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 291.85,-7.54%), Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (Rs. 540.60,-4.68%), Piramal Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 1522.85,-4.62%), SMS Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (Rs. 41.95,-4.44%), Medicamen Biotech Ltd. (Rs. 360.05,-3.06%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2036 , shares advanced were 884 while 1008 shares declined and 144 were unchanged.
