Post Session: Sensex nosedives over 336 pts to end below 41,000 mark; Nifty below 12,100

The benchmark indices settled around a percent lower on Friday amid sell-off in media, PSU banks, metals & auto and tracking weakness in the Asian markets. While, In the broader market, Nifty Midcap 100 index ended flat at 17,222, up 0.06% while Nifty SmallCap 100 index outperformed the benchmarks by settling nearly a per cent higher.

Overseas, Asian shares slipped on Friday, knocking a global stock index off its path to hitting an all-time peak as investors turned cautious, fearing a new US law backing Hong Kong protesters could torpedo efforts to end the US-China trade war.

Meanwhile, European shares were little changed on Friday as Hong Kong braced for a fresh round of protests over the weekend. The pan-European Stoxx 600 was marginally lower at 409.16 after declining 0.15 percent in the previous session. The German DAX slipped 0.1 percent and the U.K.'s FTSE 100 was marginally lower while France's CAC 40 index was little changed.

Among individual shares, Zee Entertainment slipped nearly 6 per cent to end at Rs 293.55 apiece on the BSE. The stock has been under pressure on series of developments such as Subhash Chandra's resignation as chairman of the company and then stepping down of three directors. Whereas, shares of Lemon Tree Hotels rose nearly 3 percent on November 29 after the company launched hotel under Red Fox brand in Andhra Pradesh.

In the commodities market, Oil prices fell on Friday ahead of a meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allies including Russia, a group known as OPEC+, next week. While, the Indian rupee has recovered marginally from the day's low but trading lower at 71.79 per dollar.

The 30-share benchmark ended at 40793.81 down by -336.36 points or by -0.82 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 12056.05 down by -95.1 points or by -0.78 per cent. During the day’s trade, Sensex touched intraday high of 41143.22 and intraday low of 40664.18 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 12147.4 and intraday low of 12017.4.

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 442.30,+1.28%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1274.25,+0.70%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 115.95,+0.35%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 71.30,-2.79%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 68.30,-2.50%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2036.10,-2.37%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 530.05,-2.12%), State Bank of India (Rs. 341.85,-2.03%), among others.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 2971 , shares advanced were 1329 while 1424 shares declined and 218 were unchanged.
