Pre-Session: Markets likely to start the day on flat note

Indian benchmarks are expected to start the day on a flat note on Monday. Markets will first react to the GDP numbers and auto sales data. The numbers released post market hours on Friday showed that India's GDP rate slipped to a six-year low of 4.5 per cent in the September quarter. Meanwhile, the output of eight core infrastructure industries contracted by 5.8 per cent in October and as many as six of eight core industries saw a contraction in output in October.

Auto stocks will react to the November sales data released on Sunday according to which sales four- and two-wheeler slid by almost 8 per cent in November. Telecom stocks will also be in focus today after Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea on Sunday announced a tariff hike in the range of 15 per cent and 40 per cent across different plans. The tariff hike will be applicable from December 3.

On Friday, the 30-share benchmark ended at 40793.81 down by 336.36 points or by 0.82 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12056.05 down by 95.1 points or by 0.78 % Globally, developments in the US-China trade talks will keep investors on their toes. Although increasing tensions over Hong Kong has unsettled market confidence, investors are nonetheless hopeful that Beijing and Washington could reach a compromise in trade talks.

Wall Street's major indexes ended Friday's shorter session lower as US-China discord over Hong Kong fuelled investor anxiety about trade talks and retail stocks dipped as in-store Black Friday sales appeared to draw smaller crowds.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 112.59 points, or 0.4%, to 28,051.41, the S&P 500 lost 12.65 points, or 0.40%, to 3,140.98 and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 39.70 points, or 0.46%, to 8,665.47.

Asian shares ticked up on Monday and oil rebounded after a big fall late last week. MSCI's index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.17%, reclaiming some of its one-percent-plus loss on Friday while Japan's Nikkei rose 0.85%.

Total numbers of contracts for index options were 8915250 with a total turnover of Rs. 663347.73 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 842047 with a total turnover of Rs. 42627.27 Crore.

The FIIs on 29/11/2019 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 5966.66 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 731.42 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 4338.97 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 2596.20 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1627.69 Crore and Rs. -1864.78
