Sensex opens higher; Airtel up 10%

Indian benchmarks started the day on a positive note on Monday. Reliance Industries, Escorts, Bharti Airtel, IDFC First Bank and PNB are among major gainers on the Indices, while losers are Yes Bank, Eicher Motors, Tata Motors, ONGC, Titan and Suven Life.

Oil prices rose more than 1% on Monday as signs of rising manufacturing activity in China pointed to increasing fuel demand and hints that OPEC may deepen output cuts at its meeting this week indicated supply may tighten next year.

Meanwhile, Rupee opens weaker at 71.78/$ vs Friday's close of 71.74 against the US dollar.

At 9:35, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 40933.83 up by 140.02 points or by 0.34 % and then NSE Nifty was at 12137.05 up by 81 points or by 0.67 %. Sensex touched intraday high of 41093.99 and intraday low of 40835.64 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 12137.05 and intraday low of 12137.05

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 480.10,+8.55%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1608.50,+3.71%), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 744.75,+0.71%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1577.20,+0.51%), State Bank of India (Rs. 343.40,+0.45%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 128.55,-2.43%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 745.80,-2.06%), Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 3995.00,-1.92%), YES Bank Ltd. (Rs. 67.00,-1.90%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 191.50,-0.96%), among others.

Among the sectors, TECk index was at 7552.53 up by 91.76 points or by 1.23%. Vodafone Idea Ltd. (Rs. 8.04,+17.72%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 479.60,+8.43%), Jagran Prakashan Ltd. (Rs. 58.95,+6.89%), Reliance Communications Ltd. (Rs. 0.85,+4.94%), Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 306.40,+4.38%),.

On the flip side, Auto index was at 17972.53 down by -126.99 points or by -0.7%. Eicher Motors Ltd. (Rs. 22479.90,-1.80%), Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 77.75,-1.71%), Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd. (Rs. 127.50,-1.24%), Bosch Ltd. (Rs. 15973.55,-0.95%), Cummins India Ltd. (Rs. 537.50,-0.83%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1357 , shares advanced were 622 while 633 shares declined and 102 were unchanged.
