Sensex marginally up; RIL, Maruti Suzuki top gainers

Domestic bourses continued to trade marginally higher during the morning deals after the government took drastic measures to combat Covid-19 outbreak with Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing a complete lockdown of the country for 21 days.

Asian peers were also trading higher as authorities world over stepped up efforts to fight the pandemic. The share price of Mahindra & Mahindra declined over 5 percent intraday on March 25, making the company one of the top Sensex losers. The company and other auto manufacturers have decided to halt production in the country due to outbreak of coronavirus.

At 10:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 26716.78 up by 42.75 points or by 0.16 % and then NSE Nifty was at 7845.45 up by 44.4 points or by 0.57 %.

Sensex touched intraday high of 27299.44 and intraday low of 26359.91 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 7980.35 and intraday low of 7714.75

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1005.25,+6.59%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 4724.45,+5.32%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 14154.30,+4.42%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 414.00,+2.46%), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd. (Rs. 150.35,+2.21%), among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were ITC Ltd. (Rs. 139.80,-6.46%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 293.25,-6.11%), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 672.70,-5.03%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 423.75,-4.12%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 573.45,-3.39%), among others.

Oil&Gas index was at 9035.97 up by 64.33 points or by 0.72%. Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1005.25,+6.59%), Castrol India Ltd. (Rs. 94.55,+4.88%), Petronet LNG Ltd. (Rs. 179.60,+1.35%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 265.85,+1.33%), Gujarat State Petronet Ltd. (Rs. 151.00,+0.90%),.

CGS index was at 9622.49 down by -291.65 points or by -2.94%. Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 672.70,-5.03%), Sadbhav Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 32.65,-4.95%), Kalpataru Power Transmissions Ltd. (Rs. 177.00,-3.44%), Lakshmi Machine Works Ltd. (Rs. 2052.00,-3.40%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 19.55,-2.49%),.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 1762 , shares advanced were 619 while 1047 shares declined and 96 were unchanged.
